Hello! I’m Ambria Abney, founder of Abney Literacy Garden.
I believe literacy is one of the most powerful tools a person can possess. The ability to read, write, think critically, and communicate confidently opens doors to academic achievement, career opportunities, and lifelong success. That belief is the foundation of everything we do at Abney Literacy Garden.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communications from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master of Arts in English and African American Literature. In addition to my academic achievements, I was honored to be selected as a member of the 2021 Columbia Publishing Course cohort after being awarded the Ecco & Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney Fellowship. This prestigious and competitive fellowship recognized my potential as an emerging literary professional and provided me with immersive training, mentorship, and insight from leaders across the publishing industry.
My passion for education has led me to work with learners of all ages in classrooms, one-on-one tutoring settings, and community-based educational programs. For six years, I served as an English Instructor and Tutor with Navigate the Maze to Achievement, providing individualized instruction that helped students strengthen their reading, writing, grammar, and critical thinking skills. During this time, I supported learners with diverse academic needs, helping them build confidence and achieve measurable growth.
I also served as a teacher at Kingdom Kreations Academy, LLC, where I belonged to a positive, engaging learning environment that encouraged academic development, social- emotional development, and curiosity. In addition, I worked as a substitute teacher throughout the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), adapting to a variety of grade levels, subject areas, and classroom environments while maintaining high expectations for student learning and success. These experiences have reinforced my belief that every learner can succeed when provided with personalized instruction, encouragement, and the right educational tools.
Abney Literacy Garden was created to provide high-quality, individualized literacy instruction that meets each learner where they are. Every student receives a personalized learning plan designed to build foundational literacy skills, strengthen academic performance, and develop the confidence needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
At Abney Literacy Garden, I don’t just teach reading and writing—I help students become confident communicators, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners. It is my mission to cultivate a love of learning while equipping every student with the literacy skills they need to achieve their goals.
